About the Episode
In the winter of 1944, Adolf Hitler’s Reich is being squeezed between two fronts as American and British armies advance from the west and Soviet forces from the east. Hitler responds with a bold offensive to split the Allies and reverse his fortunes, at the site of his 1940 surprise victory: the Ardennes Forest. The ensuing battle will drive an enormous bulge into the western line and throw the American and British forces on their heels.
In the east, the Soviet Red Army makes rapid progress towards Germany and Joseph Stalin’s ultimate goal: Berlin. Soviet soldiers exact a brutal campaign of retribution against the German people in retaliation for Nazi war crimes in the USSR.
Hitler retreats to Berlin as Germany’s enemies draw nearer. He issues orders for the soldiers and civilians of the Nazi Reich to fight to the last.
The National WWII Museum was proud to support HISTORY's work on this series through historical research, educational outreach, and archival footage, as well as on-site interviews with WWII veterans that will be featured as part of the network’s “Save Our History” initiative.
