Explore the war that changed the world through a unique storytime experience!

Join us most Tuesdays and Saturdays to spark your child's love of history with WWII-themed children's books plus fun activities and crafts for kids ages 3 to 8.

Storytime is FREE and open to the public! Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the program.

Storytime Themes, Books, and Activities

November: Jazz Music in World War II 

  • Featured Book: Mama Mabel’s All-Gal Big Band Jazz Extravaganza by Annie Sieg
  • Purchase a copy of this book.
  • Families will build their own instruments and start their own band! 

December: Christmas in World War II


January: WWII Animal Friends

  • Featured Book: Brothers in Arms: A True World War II Story of Wojtek the Bear and the Soldiers Who Loved Him by Susan Hood
  • Families will make their own bear masks!

February: Friendship during WWII

  • Featured Book: The Bracelet by Yoshiko Uchida
  • Families will create their own friendship bracelets!

March: Women’s History Month

  • Featured Book: Rosie the Riveter: The Legacy of an American Icon by Sarah Dvojack
  • Families will create their own Rosie “We Can Do It!” Power Bandd with a personal empowerment message!

April: Month of the Military Child

  • Featured Book: Maggie the Military Rat by Monica Voicu Denniston
  • Families will design their own military helmets!

May: Springtime Stories of Hope and Rebirth

  • Featured Book: Gertie: The Darling Duck of WWII by Shari Swanson
  • Families will paint their own bird eggs with an encouraging message inside!
