About the Tour
The Neapolitan countryside has always been famous for its stunning scenery, exceptional cuisine, and 2,500 years of cultural heritage. But in 1943 and 1944, it was transformed into a fierce battleground, where Allied forces confronted some of their toughest German opposition of the Italian Campaign.
On this brand-new tour, follow the Allied advance from the beaches of Salerno to Monte Cassino, home to the Benedictine abbey founded in 529 AD and the site of one of World War II’s defining struggles. Led by historian and best-selling author Keith Lowe along with an expert battlefield guide, you’ll explore pivotal sites that shaped the outcome of the war in Italy. Along the way, you’ll encounter the ancient ruins, medieval castles, and baroque palaces that stood witness to centuries of conflict and resilience—and formed the backdrop to the liberation of Italy.
