The National WWI Museum's newest exhibit, "Turning Point: The Doolittle Raid, Battle of the Coral Sea, and Battle of Midway," opens April 18, 2012 and will be on display until July 8, 2012.
The National WWII Museum in New Orleans marks a milestone by welcoming its three-millionth visitor.
The National WWII Museum today announced that it has received a grant from Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit veteran service organization whose mission is to honor and empower Wounded Warriors. The $30,000 grant will expand the Museum’s ability to aid injured soldiers’ return to civic life and improve their experience of reentering the job market.
On May 10, 2014, The National WWII Museum will hosted its second annual Robotics Challenge, an exciting opportunity for middle school students to participate in active problem solving all based on real-life scenarios from WWII. This regional student robotics competition serves as a signature piece of the Museum’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) initiative aimed at encouraging young people to explore opportunities in science and math.

With its dense jungles, humid temperatures, and overall grueling conditions—Guadalcanal became a proving ground and turning point for the American and Japanese forces. Explore key battles, characters, and strategies in this brutal six-month struggle in the Solomon Islands with Museum historians and WWII authors and experts.

Part Two: The Naval Battles of Guadalcanal
Join James Hornfischer, author of Neptune’s Inferno: The US Navy at Guadalcanal, to learn about the ferocious sea battles surrounding the Solomon Islands, causing overwhelming losses on both sides of air crewman, aviators, planes, and ships. Hornfischer will chronicle the seven major naval actions in the “Iron Bottom Sound” and the incredible, gripping stories of both officers and enlisted men aboard American battleships, destroyers, and cruisers. Learn about critical decisions and strategic adjustments in one of the most intense naval campaigns of World War II.
