6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion | FROM THE COLLECTION

Curator Cory Graff explains how integral the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, a unit made up of primarily Black women, was to servicemembers in Europe. These artifacts will be on display at The National WWII Museum’s newly expanded and reimagined Fighting for the Right to Fight: African American Experiences in World War II special exhibition. This exhibit honors the significant role more than two million Black servicemembers and Home Front workers played in securing Allied victory, even as they faced discrimination.
