For over 70 years, Americans have made the pilgrimage to the battlefields of Normandy. Veterans, families of the fallen, and general tourists account for millions of visits each year. Join us to hear the story of one remarkable woman, Madame Simone Renaud, whose devotion to a generation of heroes transcended all boundaries, and helped make Americans feel at home in a far away French land.

Madame Renaud—a native of Sainte-Mère-Église, the first town liberated on D-Day—spent a lifetime tending to the graves of those American soldiers and corresponding with their loved ones back home. She became friend, family and touchstone to those whose lives were forever changed by D-Day.

The day is designed for Scouts to tour the Museum's exhibits, explore the history and lessons of D-Day, and participate in special presentations and activities just for them. International Holocaust Remembrance Day: Behind Enemy Lines with Marthe Cohn

On the eve of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, hear the moving story of courage and persistence of French Jewish Spy Marthe Cohn. When the Nazis crossed the border and invaded France in 1940, Marthe and her family fled. She joined the French Army as part of the intelligence service and set out on missions behind enemy lines. Posing as a young German nurse desperate to find her fiancé, Marthe successfully retrieved critical information about German troop movements and reported it to the Allies. Marthe will share this extraordinary story of heroism and bravery firsthand and answer live student questions.
