On the heels of The National WWII Museum registering a new one-day attendance high on March 11, 2013, the institution has set yet another record, welcoming more than 54,000 guests during the month of March, achieving the highest monthly visitation level in the Museum’s 13-year history.
On June 10, 2017, The National WWII Museum will open its newest permanent exhibit—The Arsenal of Democracy: The Herman and George R. Brown Salute to the Home Front. Located on the second floor of the Museum’s original Louisiana Memorial Pavilion, the exhibit will tell the story of the road to war and the Home Front, including the political discord of the prewar years, the terror of the Pearl Harbor attacks, the massive mobilization in personnel and manufacturing, and the experience of ordinary Americans. Visitors will find themselves inside the story through nine immersive galleries, which re-create a newsstand, factory floor, 1940s home and more as the evocative backdrop for artifacts, digital interactives and personal narratives.
This weekend, The National WWII Museum capped off a record-breaking fiscal year with another milestone: welcoming the 4 millionth visitor to the institution.
As part of a unique partnership with The Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest, The National WWII Museum today announced it will host a “Salute to Freedom” contest awarding one student from each of the 50 states with an all-expense-paid trip to New Orleans.
During World War II, this anthem was sung by African Americans fighting fascism abroad and continuing the struggle for social justice in the United States.
