The National WWII Museum in New Orleans presents WWII veteran Richard Greer with Silver Service Medallion in Guadalcanal on May 4, 2011, for his service in the Battle of Guadalcanal.

Soldiers and Marines urged fellow Americans to fight against anti-Japanese American racism at home as they were fighting for democracy overseas.

It was the attack that changed the world, and on December 7, the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, the place to listen and learn about it will be in New Orleans at The National WWII Museum’s International Conference on WWII.

In the bloodiest  battle in Marine Corps history, 27 Marines and sailors were awarded the Medal of Honor for action on Iwo Jima. No other campaign surpassed that number.
