Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, was the Nazi dictatorship’s declaration of war against German and Austrian Jews in November 1938.

By VE-Day, 1.6 million American soldiers stood on German soil. Their first months in the land of their former enemy were marked by a number of surprising observations and interactions.

The Allied invasion of Western Europe was code named Operation Overlord. It required years of planning, training, and supplying by the United States and Great Britain, and was one of the most heavily guarded secrets of the war. 

Though the Aleutian Tigers have largely faded from public memory of World War II, their legacy lives on in both Alaskan historical sites and in the preserved or restored P-40s of the 343rd that still bear their iconic yellow tigers.
