Hazel Ah Ying Lee was the first Chinese American woman to join the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) during World War II.

Originally designated Operation Anvil and intended to support the hammer blow of the Normandy landings two months earlier, the renamed Operation Dragoon fulfilled an American desire for a lodgment in southern France that shifted forces from the strategic cul-de-sac of Italy.

Dr. Roscoe Brown served in the US Army Air Forces as a fighter pilot in the 100th Fighter Squadron, 332nd Fighter Group, 15th Air Force. Brown recounts some of his exploits in the skies over Europe, including a duel with a German Me 262 jet fighter.

After 80 years, the remains of Private First Class John Henry Newstrom, a US Marine killed during the Battle of Peleliu in 1944, have been identified and will be returned home thanks to a joint recovery effort by the US and Japanese governments.
