Join The National WWII Museum for a free teacher webinar exploring how educators can help students connect with the people, places, and events of World War II through the music of the era.
Music was everywhere during World War II. It played over radios and in dance halls, accompanied servicemembers overseas, boosted morale on the Home Front, and gave voice to the hopes, anxieties, and experiences of a generation at war.
Through historical context, primary sources, interactive activities, and stories like that of the USS New Orleans and those who served aboard, participants will discover strategies for incorporating songs and sound into the history classroom and helping students consider what music can reveal about morale, identity, popular culture, and the experiences of wartime Americans. Educators will leave with classroom-ready resources and strategies that can be used across history, social studies, ELA, and music classrooms.
