D-Day marked the beginning of the massive Allied invasion of France and remains the largest amphibious assault in military history. But for one small American town, June 6, 1944, would leave an especially profound and lasting scar. Bedford, Virginia, lost 20 of the 44 men it sent into the invasion—giving it, by many accounts, the highest per capita loss of any American community during the campaign. Join Museum Director of Public Engagement Maggie Hartley, EdD, as she traces the stories of these men and explores how their sacrifices shaped Bedford, from the battlefields of Normandy in 1944 to the heart of the town today.
