Veterans Day 2017

A daylong salute to veterans and active servicemembers at the Museum.

Veterans Day 2017 activities at the Museum included a band performance, a Knit Your Bit knit-in and associated scarf giveaway to veterans, and a commemoration ceremony featuring Medal of Honor recipient Jay Vargas.

Veterans of all conflicts received free admission to the Museum’s galleries and exhibits, and a comprehensive new guide to researching military records was released. In addition, Veterans Day was the culmination of a new program by Museum volunteers, who hand-wrote hundreds of letters of gratitude to Louisiana WWII veterans. On the evening before Veterans Day, the Museum hosted Victory Ball, a 1940s-themed party for sponsored active-duty servicemembers and veterans.

Below is a an archived video of the commemoration ceremony and a gallery of images. Thank you to all who participated, and thank you to all who guard our liberty.
