Bob tells an excellent story about raising victory gardens and how because they lived on 1/2 an acre, his family was able to raise their own vegetables, fruits, chickens and goat’s milk. His family was self sustaining and was made to be that way because of the war and lack of supplies on a regular basis. “It changed our economic way of life.”Bob talks about his participation in scrap drives and how he and his buddies would go door to door and ask for old pots and pans and the like for the scrap drives. He goes on to talk about how for the newspaper drives he would “liberate” the best magazines and read them.
