San Francisco-based Taube Philanthropies has pledged $2 million to The National WWII Museum in New Orleans for the development of the Taube Family Holocaust Education Program, which will ensure public remembrance of the atrocities that led to the genocide of more than six million European Jews during World War II.
In honor of The Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation’s commitment to honoring Gold Star families, the Foundation has gifted The National WWII Museum with a Gold Star mural located on the side of the institution’s Louisiana Memorial Pavilion. The 26x14-foot painting will act as a lasting tribute to families who have lost a loved one in the service of the nation’s military, while also preserving the memory of the fallen and standing as a stark reminder that freedom is not free.
During World War II, surgeons and medical assistants created new treatments and procedures in plastic surgery that are still used in modern practice. These techniques not only improved soldiers’ physical appearance, but also their morale, by restoring their sense of pride and confidence.
