One family's WWII story as told through correspondence written to a young wife and mother.

As Veterans Day nears on November 11, The National WWII Museum is reminding Americans to reach out to veterans and say “Thank You for My Freedom” with the institution’s social media campaign centered around the website www.myveteransday.org. There, users can post videos, photos and messages expressing their gratitude to military veterans of all ages.

John Fox was one of seven African Americans who had their earlier awards upgraded to the Medal of Honor on January 13, 1997. Like all but one of the veterans, he did not live to see this honor.

World War II saw more women serving than any conflict in history. Many Americans know about their own women’s organizations, such as the Women’s Army Corps. Across the pond in England, many women served in the WRNS, or the Women’s Royal Navy Service.

The Museum highlights educational resources for teachers and students that can be used to explore Japanese American incarceration.
