In honor of The Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation’s commitment to honoring Gold Star families, the Foundation has gifted The National WWII Museum with a Gold Star mural located on the side of the institution’s Louisiana Memorial Pavilion. The 26x14-foot painting will act as a lasting tribute to families who have lost a loved one in the service of the nation’s military, while also preserving the memory of the fallen and standing as a stark reminder that freedom is not free.
On Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 7:00 pm, The National World War II Museum will host author Elizabeth Bettina and Holocaust survivor Ursula Korn-Selig who will speak about the Holocaust in Italy during World War II.
No newsflash in modern history has ever been greeted with such overwhelming celebration as the announcement that Japan had surrendered, effectively ending World War II, a war that Americans thought would go on indefinitely. Of all the iconic images from that day, the one that still continues to embody the spirit of the nation was of one very famous kiss between a nurse and a sailor.
Join The National WWII Museum March 7 to celebrate the launch of "Loyal Forces" (LSU Press, March 2013), written and compiled by Museum curators Toni M. Kiser and Lindsey F. Barnes.
