NEW ORLEANS (February 27, 2013) — “Ol’ Blue Eyes” is back. The National WWII Museum proudly announces its newest entertainment offering My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra opening Friday, March 15, at the Stage Door Canteen.
The review, conceived by David Grapes and Todd Olson, will be performed by singers Courtney Boe, a member of the Museum’s popular trio The Victory Belles who has also starred in the Stage Door Canteen’s production On The Air and will appear this summer in Thanks for the Memories: Bob Hope and his All-Star Pacific Tour; Ryan Fischer, who is making his debut at the Stage Door Canteen and has performed in Tulane’s A Grand Night for Singing and Sex, Murder, and Showtunes; Clint Johnson, previously featured in the Stage Door Canteen’s Let Freedom Swing and the Museum’s original show Island Breezes and Cristina Perez, the featured vocalist in the Stage Door Canteen’s recent smash hit Jump, Jive and Wail: The Music of Louis Prima. These talented performers will be accompanied by the Museum’s own swinging Victory 3 Band with Tom Hook on piano, Charles Kohlmeyer on drums and Pete Roze on bass.
“Frank was the number one singer in the country when the war began,” said Museum spokesperson Clem Goldberger. “He had tried to enlist, but could never serve because of a perforated eardrum. Instead, he did his patriotic duty and entertained the troops overseas often accompanied by superstars of the day such as the Andrews Sisters. Our tribute at our own Stage Door Canteen will evoke those great musical moments.”
More than thirty of Frank’s greatest hits will be covered by the two-man two-woman cast including his classic ballads such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “My Way,” “You Make Me Feel So Young” and “Strangers in the Night.”
“This will be a rare treat for Sinatra fans both young and old,” promised Victoria Reed, the Museum’s director of entertainment. “People should make their reservations soon as we anticipate a sold-out engagement!”
My Way will run through Sunday, May 12. There will be Friday and Saturday dinner as well as Sunday brunch performances featuring the spectacular cuisine of Chef John Besh and the American Sector Restaurant.
