NEW ORLEANS, LA (November 24, 2010) - The National World War II Museum is decking the halls and dishing out double rations of Yuletide cheer with a new holiday show debuting November 26 at the Stage Door Canteen featuring the institution’s famed Victory Belles.
The harmonious threesome star in “The Victory Belles Ring in the Holidays,” a musical tour of such timeless seasonal songs as “Winter Wonderland,” “Santa Baby,” “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm,” and “White Christmas”.
“The Victory Belles’ energy is captivating,” says The Museum’s Entertainment Director Victoria Reed. “The singing and dancing are terrific. We take the audience from Christmas in the South Pacific to European fox holes and revisit an era full of holiday spirit.”
Indeed, most everyone can hum the tunes, but few people know that many of these songs of good cheer were composed in wartime. “White Christmas,” for example, was composed in the darkest days of World War II.
“Holidays during the World War II years were poignant, with men and women far from home and in harm’s way,” said Clem Goldberger, the Museum’s Associate Vice President for Marketing. “These songs capture the spirit and warmth and hope of the season. With so many Americans still serving our country today, these songs continue to touch our hearts.”
“The Victory Belles Ring in the Holidays” runs until January 16, 2011 with evening performances on Fridays and Saturdays, Sunday Champagne Brunch Matinees, Wednesday Buffet Matinees, and a limited number of Friday and Saturday Buffet Matinees. Holiday menus have been created by Chef John Besh and The American Sector restaurant. Evening Dinner and Show packages are $60; a show-only option is $30. The Sunday Champagne Brunch Matinees are $55 and the Wednesday/Friday/Saturday Buffet Matinees are $34. Reservations are strongly recommended.
