Get in the game with Heat of Battle III at The National World War II Museum

Third annual conference dedicated to WWII and wargaming

NEW ORLEANS (August 18, 2009) – Walk in the footsteps of McArthur, Eisenhower and everyday fighting men with the Heat of Battle III wargaming convention on August 21-23, 2009. Presented by The National World War II Museum’s Education Department, Heat of Battle is an educational and entertaining opportunity to recreate history via board and miniature games. “Being able to recreate battles like the Bulge or Normandy is the best way to understand the complex decisions that soldiers and commanders had to make,” said Walt Burgoyne, Education Programs Coordinator and Heat of Battle director.

So far over 40 games have been scheduled including recreations of the fight for the D-3 draw at Omaha beach and the famous naval fight between the Bismarck and H.M.S. Hood. Tournaments involving the popular Flames of War system and original Avalon Hill wargames will be featured. All offerings focus on World War II battles and campaigns. See our website and featured video for more information, http://support.nationalww2museum.org/wargaming

The National World War II Museum tells the story of the American Experience in the war that changed the world – why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today. Dedicated in 2000 as The National D-Day Museum and now designated by Congress as America’s National World War II Museum, it celebrates the American Spirit, the teamwork, optimism, courage and sacrifice of the men and women who fought on the battlefront and the Home Front.
