Churchill and D-Day

The Orlin Russell Corey Lecture, staged in partnership with the Churchill Society of New Orleans: author Craig L. Symonds.

On May 31, 2018, author Craig L. Symonds presented The Orlin Russell Corey Lecture, staged in partnership with the Churchill Society of New Orleans, on the topic "Churchill and D-Day."

"Winston Churchill was a man who liked to be in charge," Symonds said to open his presentation. "Not only in charge, but to define, control, and manage almost every aspect of a project. And this was particularly true in managing war. He put his fingers into every pie and looked over the shoulder of every commander. And that was certainly true of his role in helping plan and execute the Normandy invasion, as we will see." Simonds's presentation starts at the 11:59 mark below.

The next day, Symonds delivered a Lagniappe Lecture on the topic of his most recent book, World War II at Sea: A Global History. Watch it here
