NEW ORLEANS (March 11, 2019) – The National WWII Museum today announced the launch of a new book commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Written by the Museum’s Founding President & CEO Emeritus Gordon H. “Nick” Mueller, PhD, “Everything We Have: D-Day 6.6.44” tells the American story of the Normandy landings through firsthand accounts, images and artifacts from the Museum’s collections.
Those who took part in the Allied landings witnessed one of the most pivotal moments in world history and the beginning of a prolonged, costly and ultimately successful campaign to liberate northwest Europe. Offering rare insight into the experiences of the soldiers, airmen and sailors who overwhelmed Hitler’s forces on D-Day and beyond, “Everything We Have” tells the personal stories of the people involved in Operation Overlord in their own words, some for the first time. All drawn from The National WWII Museum’s collection, the book features 40 extensive personal accounts, more than 150 archival photos, dozens of featured artifacts and documents and 11 new maps highlighting key aspects of the epic Allied invasion. The 256-page volume also includes a forward written by NBC News veteran, longtime Museum champion and “The Greatest Generation” author Tom Brokaw.
“The book is a perfect complement to a stunning cluster of Museum galleries paying tribute to the military genius and personal sacrifices of those who prevailed in World War II,” Brokaw writes in his forward. “Every soldier, sailor, civilian – whatever their rank or job – experienced the horrors, the heroics, the sacrifices of D-Day. A thousand years from now, historians will look back in wonder on what was accomplished by ordinary citizens.”
The official book launch will be held on Thursday, March 14 at The National WWII Museum in New Orleans. Presented by the Institute for the Study of War and Democracy and the General Raymond E. Mason Jr. Distinguished Lecture Series on World War II, the evening will feature a lecture and book signing by Mueller. A national book tour follows with special presentations at Pritzker Military Museum & Library, Chicago, IL (March 20); New York Historical Society, New York, NY, featuring a conversation with Tom Brokaw (April 15); and Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Simi Valley, CA (April 25).

Gordon H. “Nick” Mueller is President and CEO Emeritus of The National WWII Museum. A former Vice Chancellor at the University of New Orleans, he teamed with his close friend and UNO colleague Stephen Ambrose to found The National D-Day Museum, which opened in 2000.
