Veteran and Purchaser Information

Due to the current federal government shutdown, the National Archives facility in St. Louis is closed to the public. While our Historical Research Services will continue to accept veteran requests, our researchers are temporarily unable to retrieve your veteran’s Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs). We will resume our research efforts to secure your veteran’s military personnel file when the National Archives reopens its services to the public.

Your request must contain certain basic information for us to locate the service records of the veteran you would like researched.

To the best of your knowledge, please answer the following:

The veteran's complete name used while in service (first, middle, last and maiden names)

Date of birth

Place of birth

Service Number

Branch of Service: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, or Coast Guard

Unit/ship

Where was the veteran deployed?

Rank

Did the veteran serve in the Civilian Conservation Corps?

Discharge Date
