Hitler was the first dictator of Germany but he was not the last. His handpicked successor was a little known career naval officer named Karl Dönitz.

Diaries provided by the Red Cross and the YMCA occupied many long hours of those held in German POW camps. Assistant Director for Curatorial Service Kimberly Guise discusses how the Museum’s collection of this surprising genre has grown substantially over the last 20 years of the Museum’s life.

Building on the popularity of last year’s event, The National WWII Museum and the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) are proud to present WWII AirPower Expo 2015 – a three-day display of WWII warbirds in action. From October 23 to 25, an expansive fleet of vintage WWII aircraft – including the only flying B-29 Superfortress – will be on-site at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport, offering close contact with the planes and pilots that liberated the skies above the Pacific and Europe.

The National WWII Museum is saddened to learn of the passing of Colonel Gail S. Halvorsen (USAF, Ret.), who died February 16, 2022, at the age of 101.
