Location: 945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130

This Memorial Day, we highlight four men from the U.S. Weather Bureau who answered the call to action without hesitation, without thought of personal gain or recognition and knowing full well that in doing so they might make the ultimate sacrifice. Lester Fodor, Luther Brady, George Kubach, and Edward Weber volunteered for duty in 1942 as civilian weather observers aboard the US Coast Guard Cutter Muskeget, and after several days of sending out coded messages containing vital weather observations essential to safe navigation by vessels containing troops, fuel, munitions, and supplies, went down with the ship.

We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in one of the world’s darkest hours. This year, Lester Fodor, Luther Brady, George Kubach, and Edward Weber, awarded a Purple Heart in 2015 after the discovery of the U-755 logs that confirmed its sinking of their ship, will be added to the site.
