Tour Itinerary

Day One: London

Tour guides will escort guests from the airport to their accommodations at the Royal Horseguards Hotel, a five-star Victorian-style property completely refurbished with modern amenities.

At night, a private dinner will orient guests to the tour and allow for mingling and relaxation.

Day Two: London

Guests will first visit the American Memorial Chapel at St. Paul’s Cathedral, a much-photographed London landmark, to see the honor roll of the 28,000 Americans who died in WWII in England. The tour then proceeds to the Imperial War Museum, where a private tour of the Cabinet War Rooms will take guests through the narrow, underground space that protected Churchill and his advisors during the Blitz. Guests will join the museum’s founder, Mr. Phil Reed, for dinner in this singular location.

Day Three: Chartwell / London

A brief drive brings guests to Chartwell, Churchill’s personal estate. Guest will roam the sculpted gardens and ruminate by the fish ponds after a guided tour of the building itself.

Exclusive features include a glimpse of Churchill’s personal art studio, which holds almost two hundred of his original paintings, showing another side of this enigmatic man.

The estate will provide a traditional English lunch.

Day 4: London / Portsmouth / Bayeux

The journey toward war continues as guests depart London for Southwick House, where General Eisenhower hunched over his maps on the eve of D-Day. Colonel J.T. Green, the resident Regimental Secretary, will draw guests in with a rare lecture on the invasion.

Guests will then visit the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth before boarding the ferry to cross the English Channel, where they’ll convene for a seafaring dinner.

By nightfall, guests arrive in Bayeux, Normandy’s historical center, to check in to the boutique Villa Lara hotel.

Southwick House

Day 5: Bayeux / Caen, Pegasus Bridge and Sword, Juno and Gold Beaches

Guests begin their day at the Memorial de Caen. This museum unveils the history of the Normandy campaign though soldier’s garments and artillery, but is dedicated to reconciliation and peace.

An afternoon spent in the British and Canadian sectors introduces guests to sites and artifacts unfamiliar to American audiences, including the wooden remains of a portable "Mulberry" harbor at Arromanches. A guide demonstrates the power of such engineering projects after a modest lunch.

Before returning to the Villa Lara, guests will view the remains of the German gun emplacements at Longues-sur-Mer and consider the challenges the Allies faced.

Day 6: Bayeux / Ste. Mere-Église / Utah Beach

The tour dedicates this day to the American Airborne forces so critical to success in Normandy. In the morning, guests land in Ste. Mere-Église, where paratroopers touched down on D-Day. They will continue to the Musée Airborne to see the faded wings of American aircraft used during the campaign, followed by lunch at Chateau de Bernaville.

During lunch, Dorothea de la Houssay, the National WWII Museum’s Normandy Director of Development and cultural programs, with have an intimate chat with tour guests about the history of the chateau and its proposed future.

Later in the day, the tour stops at Brécourt Manor, the country home used as the site of an ambush made famous by the book and popular miniseries Band of Brothers.

Day Seven: Bayeaux / Omaha Beach / Pointe-du-Hoc and the American Cemetery

The tour reaches its climax with a visit to the cinematic sites of D-Day: the imposing bluffs at Pointe-du-Hoc, the seemingly endless stretch of sand at Omaha Beach and the German defense systems at St. Laurent-sur-Mer and Vierville-sur-Mer.

Finally, guests will arrive at the Normandy American Cemetery to pay respects to the 9,837 American soldiers who died during the campaign. This symbolically ends the tour and provides guests with a family connection to the war the opportunity to brush against their family’s history.

At night, guests will participate in a semiformal "Farewell to Normandy" dinner at the Chateau de Brouay. This one-of-a-kind invites guests into a storied Norman Chateau to sample the region’s classic fare and its finest Calvados.

Day Eight: Bayeux / Paris

As guests travel from Bayeux to Paris, they learn the last details of the campaign, including the meeting of American and Polish troops and the German retreat.

When they arrive, guests check into the Millenium Commodore Hotel for an evening of unstructured leisure in this romantic city.

Independent transfers to Charles de Gaulle International Airport.
