Size:
Groups must have a minimum of 15 people.
While group size may fluctuate during
the planning phase, the group must still
consist of 15 people upon arrival to
receive a discount.
Group Rate:
Adult rate is $10.00 per person.
Senior citizen/Elder hostel rate is
$6.00 per person
(65 and over). Students are $4.00 per
person in the Fall Semester. and $5.00
per person during the Spring Semester.
ROTC and ROTC groups will be charged
as student groups. Complimentary admission
is provided to bus drivers for all groups.
In the case of Elementary, Jr. High
and High School student groups, 1 chaperone
per 10 students is required regardless
of grade. In an effort to encourage
adult supervision, the Museum will provide
free admission to 1 chaperone per 5
students, and additional chaperones
will be charged $8.00. Pre-visit educational
material is provided to help prepare
and orient students. The tour escort
for all non student groups will be provided
complimentary admission.
Payment:
Payment is preferred on the day of the
visit. Advance payment is also accepted.
Payment can be in the form of organizational
check, cash or credit card. There should
be one person with responsibility for
processing payment with Museum personnel
at the ticket counter. The Museum does
not provide direct billing or receive
purchase orders for payment. Deposits
are no longer necessary. Advanced group
tickets are non-refundable. Any additional
tickets required for the group not previously
anticipated must be purchased at the
ticket counter on the day of the visit
with the Visitor Services Manager. The
regular admission rate would apply for
those additional tickets.
Scheduling a Group:
It is necessary to schedule a group
in advance in order to receive the group
discount. Please contact us as soon
as possible to determine if the desired
day and time is available. A minimum
of two weeks is requested. Group admissions
are staggered throughout the day, please
be prepared to provide several options.
Peak months for groups are March, April
and May.
Cancellation Policy:
Please notify us as soon as possible
to cancel an existing reservation. This
will allow another group the opportunity
to enjoy the Museum.
Parking:
The Museum provides an unloading/loading
zone only for busses along side of our
building on Magazine Street. Drivers
should be prepared to move the vehicle
from this position once passengers are
unloaded and arrange a time to meet
the group for pick up. Busses will not
be allowed to unload/load on Higgins
Blvd in front of the Museum because
of safety hazards. Bus parking is available
two blocks away (under the overpass).
Cars are accommodated for a fee at a
variety of parking meters and lots readily
available.
Docent-Led Tours:
There are a limited number available
for field trips. They are scheduled
on a “first come first serve”
basis and often require months of advanced
planning. Please inquire at the time
of scheduling if interested. The Museum
is designed to be a self-guided experience
to allow for the desired time at each
exhibit.
Additional Information:
Backpacks are not allowed into the Museum.
Videotaping is strictly prohibited.
Photographs are allowed in the Louisiana
Memorial Pavilion and in the exhibits
without a flash. There are no picnic
facilities or snack areas. PJ's coffee
shop is on site, but is not ideal for
groups to dine together at the same
time. There are no headsets. Early admission
can be arranged.
Upon arrival:
Unloading and loading the bus should
occur on the corner of Magazine Street
at Andrew Higgins Drive. Once the reservations
have been made and paid for, one ticket
is processed by Museum staff and placed
in "will call" at the front ticket counter
(located in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion).
The ticket will be in the name of the
group and will allow admission for the
number of people who have been paid
for in advance. Individuals are allowed
"in and out" privileges throughout the
day of the visit. There are no guided
tours or headsets. The Museum is designed
to be self-guided to allow the visitor
his or her desired amount of time at
each exhibit. The average visit is three
and a half hours in duration.
Groups of 40 or larger may request admission
as early as 8:30 a.m.. Groups of 80
or more may request admission as early
as 8 am Early admissions provide access
to the exhibit space. The Museum store
does not open until 9:00 am. The screenings
of "D-Day Remembered" are at 10:30,
12:30 and 2:30. The screenings of "Price
for Peace" are at 9:30, 11:30, 1:30
and 3:30.
