About

"L" is for Landing will be on exhibition through December 2003. Featured artifacts include items used and worn by members of navy Beach Battalions and Army Special Engineer Brigades - special purpose units designed to operate the beachhead. The exhibit also features artifacts from Navy and Coast Guard personnel who manned the landing craft. Many of these sailors participated in landings both in Europe and the Pacific.

Another portion of the exhibit entitled "Crossing the Line" features the time-honored traditions associated with crossing the equator and to a lesser extent the International Date Line. Although costumes and the ceremonies during the war were at times makeshift in nature, certificates commemorating the crossing continued to be issued and saved by service members. The exhibit consists of framed examples  of original certificates and photographs donated to the Museum.
