Teacher Workshops

The National World War II Museum offers two ways for teachers to participate in professional development workshops: through videoconferencing and on site.  These workshops, led by Education Department staff, explore the history and lessons of various WWII topics.  Participants receive historical background and classroom-ready lesson plans, view rare WWII video footage, study relevant artifacts, discuss strategies for teaching each topic in the classroom, and learn about the teaching resources available from The National World War II Museum.

Workshops can be tailored to meet particular professional development needs.

By Videoconference:

Videoconferenced workshops can be scheduled for anywhere from 1-3 hours and cost $200 each.  The Museum recommends these workshops for between 5-30 teachers at a time.  Contact the Education Department for scheduling information and technical requirements.

Teacher Workshops currently available:

A Day of Infamy: The Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor
Operation Overlord: The D-Day Battle for Normandy
From Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay: World War II in the Pacific
We’re All in this Together: World War II on the American Home Front
Double Victory: The African American Experience in World War II

On-Site:

The Education Department periodically offers teacher workshops for local teachers.  Check our calendar for any upcoming workshops.  These workshops are generally offered free of charge.  On-site workshops can also be scheduled by groups of teachers (minimum 10, maximum 30).  The cost for these workshops varies depending on subject, length, and whether a guided tour of the Museum is included.

Teaching American History Grant Workshops:

The Museum’s Education Department has worked in partnership with many TAH grant seekers and recipients to design and conduct programs of value and interest for their participating teachers.  All workshops and activities, whether on-site or via videoconferencing, come complete with teacher guides and classroom materials.  Meals can easily be arranged.  The Museum can also assist you in planning your transportation and lodging.

"The program at the National WWII Museum was one of the highlights of the summer institute for our teachers. The educators at the museum took the teachers back in time and helped them to understand the little known history of the Pacific Theater. The materials the museum provided are an excellent platform for teachers to use in their classroom. The day long seminar was educational and informative. We look forward to returning so that more teachers can experience the museum."
