June 5th&6th 60th Anniversary Commemoration Weekend Information - Public Invited!

On June 5 – 6, 2004, The National D-Day Museum will commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Allied Invasion of Normandy, one of the most pivotal events of the 20th Century. Help us honor these veterans and their fallen comrades in one of the last large scale tributes to World War II and the Greatest Generation.

The weekend events will range from invasion briefings and weather situations to rock climbing and Home Front activities for the kids. In a special Sunrise Service Sunday morning we will pause in remembrance of those who did not make it back home to enjoy the victory they helped win. This weekend also marks the Museum’s 4th Anniversary. We will mark the occasion with a presentation of our dramatic expansion plans. Come and see our new properties and grounds where we will build the Nation’s most comprehensive, grand-scale tribute to the American Spirit and all theaters and services of World War II.

7:00 pm-Midnight: An Evening of Wine and War

Saturday, June 5th, 7:30 p.m. - An Evening of Wine and War
A special night in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion observing the “Decision to Go” that launched the invasion. Wear your 1940’s-era costume and imagine you are in a Parisian cabaret, listening to jazz, swing dancing and enjoying French wine & cuisine. At midnight, we raise our glasses and toast Calvados to celebrate the British glider unit that captured Pegasus Bridge in the first action of the Normandy invasion!

In a recreation of a 40s era Parisian nightclub, guests will sample cuisine from some of New Orleans' top local restaurants paired with complimentary french wines, as Tony Green and Gypsy Jazz entertain the crowd, along with an Edith Piaf inspired vocalist, and dance the night away to the sounds of the 1940s.

Advance tickets are $75 for Museum members and $100 general public. Tickets available on the day of the event for $125. For tickets and information e-mail info@ddaymuseum.org, or call Alexa Wells (504) 527-6012, ext. 226.
