Commodore Thomas J. Lupo
Thomas
J. Lupo, a real estate developer, a
decorated World War II veteran and a
booster of local veterans and military
personnel, died Sunday at his home in
New Orleans. He was 82. Mr. Lupo, known
among friends and associates as “Commodore
Lupo,” was born in New Orleans.
Though he and his wife moved to Pensacola
in the 1970s, he kept a home in New
Orleans and remained active in local
business and civic affairs. Mr. Lupo
was prominently featured in the book
“The Last Stand of the Tin Can
Sailors” by Jim Hornfischer, published
this year by Bantam. “
"He
was a great man and a great community
leader, and a World War II veteran of
some distinction,” said Gordon
“Nick” Mueller, president
of the National D-Day Museum in New
Orleans. “He did a lot of things
for this institution.”
