The National D-Day Museum Greets Member #100,000
March 11, 2005 - The National D-Day Museum met another milestone today by signing up its 100,000th membership since its Grand Opening on June 6, 2000. Our newest Charter Members,Stan and Juanita Paulis of Springfield, Illinois, was congratulated by Museum President & CEO Dr. Gordon “Nick” Mueller in a surprise ceremony in the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion. Juanita Paulis' father, Ernest McElhaney, served as an Army Air Corps mechanic in Europe during World War II, and Stan Paulis' father, Stan Paulis Sr., was a radio operator on a B-26 at Normandy on D-Day. The Paulises were thrilled with their luck and dedicated their acceptances to their fathers. Dr. Mueller presented Mr and Mrs. Paulis with a selection of prizes including the Band of Brothers DVD set and a $100 gift certificate to the Museum store.

Museums do not often garner such public commitment in a five-year time span. “What makes this milestone even more significant is that this Museum’s support reaches all corners of the country,” commented Dr. Mueller. “We have members in every state – with over 30 states having at least 1,000 members each.” Louisiana has the most members at over 8,000 strong.

The Museum first broke the industry norm by receiving more visitors during its second year of operation than its first, celebrating the one millionth after having only been open for 3 years.
